Thank you so much for all of your reviews and shares! As an independent author, I greatly appreciate all of it.

And now, here’s a special excerpt for my Instagram crew:

“You’re in a lot of trouble. I hope you know that.”

When I hear my boss’s voice, I practically melt into the chair in shock.

He closes the door behind him, and my heart pounds furiously.

“W-What are you doing here?” I swallow.

He chuckles, and the next words that come out of his mouth sound positively menacing.

“Oh, I think we both know that’s not the question we’re going to answer right now.”

My throat tightens.

He walks toward me slowly, and I don’t say anything.

Sitting on his desk, he tips my chin up toward him.

“I’m very disappointed in you, Emma. Very disappointed.”

I stand up, whisky in hand, and try to slink out of the way.

The thunder claps outside, and the rain starts to come down in buckets.

“So what are we going to do to make this right?” he asks.

“I don’t understand,” I say, playing dumb.

He takes the whisky out of my hand and has a nice swig of it.

“Please. What do you know about me that you haven’t been telling me?” he growls, handing me back the glass.

“Nothing,” I blurt out, which is stupid, but I can’t stop myself.

“No more lies,” he growls. He takes the key out of my hand and tosses it on the desk.

Then, walking back to me, he pushes me up against the shelf, holding me a hair’s breadth from his face. I can feel the warmth of his breath. My hand rests on his chest and I can sense his beating heart.

“So, what,” he pauses, looking me dead in the eye, “are you doing here?”

My heart pounds like mad. I draw my mouth open as I cycle through any possible explanation.

His hands hold mine against the wall, trapping me.

“You’re drinking my whisky,” he growls. “And going through my things. You better have a good fucking explanation.”

I try to wiggle away, but he uses his body and holds me in place against the wall.

I can see every detail in his face, every little piece of stubble. His cheeks are hot red, and as much as I want to run away, I’m also very turned on right now. It’s this weird dichotomy of emotions and I’m so flustered that I don’t even know which way is up.

He breathes close to my cheek, and runs his lips against mine, not kissing me, barely touching me, and sending a chill throughout my entire body.

Finally, he presses his lips to mine vigorously, then pulls back.

“No more lies,” he repeats.

I break. At this point, the truth might be the only thing that will set me free. I mutter, “I just want to know who Samantha is.”
